Kesmodel led Cape's girls' lacrosse team to an undefeated season and its fourth consecutive state championship in 2012.  Kesmodel is the only coach in the country to win state championships in boys' and girls' lacrosse while at Mt. Hebron in Maryland and also titles in two states. He is shown here celebrating the 2009 DIAA State Championship.

The Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association has announced that Cape Henlopen girls' lacrosse coach P.J. Kesmodel has been selected as the Harold "Tubby" Raymond Coach of the Year for the state of Delaware.

"It's a great honor for our program at Cape," Kesmodel said of the award. "We have had a lot of girls who have learned to be great lacrosse players."

There will be a luncheon for all DSBA honorees at noon, Monday, Feb. 18, at the new Sheraton right off I-95 in Wilmington. In addition to Coach of the Year, the Team of the Year and Athlete of the Year will be honored as well as the recipient of the Herm Reitzes Award for service. Tickets can only be purchased at www.delasports.org.

The Coach of the Year Award for excellence in coaching over a year and career was instituted in 2000 and encompasses all sports at all levels in the state of Delaware from amateur through high school and college.
