Cape's Valhalla staff wins honors at yearbook camp
For the third year in a row, Cape Henlopen High School’s Valhalla yearbook staff brought home an award from Josten’s Summer Camp at Gettysburg College. After winning third place in 2012, the Valhalla staff improved to second place in Best Content, Coverage, Spread Topic Development, Staff Organization and Job Descriptions.
The yearbook camp was held July 28-30. “It was intense but very helpful,” said Aly Fisher, the 2014 editor-in-chief. “I liked the breakout sessions where we could learn a little more about each topic. I am most proud of how much we got finished in so little time.”
Assistant editor Jozelynn Gentner agreed. “They gave us a lot of work, but we would be doing it all during the school year. The classes really helped. I can’t wait to go back next year!” she said.
Junior Aly Fisher and sophomores Jozelynn Gentner and Alex Shores signed up for Josten’s advanced Go For It! track, which Josten's literature describes as being designed specifically for those staffs that are positioned for and aspire to produce the highest levels of journalistically focused yearbooks. After learning more about design, content and marketing, the majority of time was devoted to completely planning the 2014 yearbook.
“It takes hard work and determination to create a good book,” said Business Manager Alex Shores. “Ours will be great!” The full-color 2014 Cape Valhalla yearbooks are on sale now at Jostens.com. Yearbooks are $90, but are on sale first semester for just $75.
