The Cape girls' basketball team was on the wrong side of the running clock to start the fourth quarter against visiting Caravel Dec. 20 at the new Not So Little Big House, trailing 66-32.

Kadijah Doughty went to the bench having scored 20 points and watched a quick fourth quarter that was over in eight minutes as Cape lost 74-39, dropping to 1-5 on the season.

The Bucs of coach Kristin Caldwell remained undefeated, improving to 4-0 on the season, all blowout victories.

"We won two and were off for 15 days before playing again, and now we have another eight-day break,” Caldwell said after the game. “I’d say at this point in the early season I’m most happy with the unselfishness of our game, although we don’t always make good decisions. We have a rough stretch of games coming up with out-of-state opponents in the Diamond State Classic.” The Bucs face Sacred Heart of New Jersey and Germantown Academy.

Caravel placed five in double figures including Ky’Asia Stanford 18, Yasmin Walker 14, Caroline Davis 12, Jessica Reynolds 10 and Micah Morgan 11.

“We need the break to get healthy and get some people back and figure where we go from here, ” coach Lamont Hazzard said of his struggling team.

The Vikings will host 3-2 Sussex Central Friday, Jan. 4. The Golden Knights have blown out Milford, Dover and Wilmington Friends in their last three games and are set up to have their best season in years.

Cape got 5-point efforts from Alison Palmer, Elizabeth Sutton and Taylor Hardy, and 4 points from Madison MacElrevey.
