Cat & Mouse Press launches new online publication

May 09, 2014

Writing is a Shore Thing, a new online newspaper being published by Cat & Mouse Press, is designed especially for writers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia. It includes information from writers clubs, regional and national bloggers, major content providers such as Writer’s Digest and Publishers Weekly, local newspapers, arts organizations, and other sources. The free daily paper saves writers the trouble of having to find and select relevant information from the massive amounts of material being disseminated via the internet. Writing is a Shore Thing is updated each morning and can be found at www.writingisashorething.com.

The volume of information about writing available through RSS feeds, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media can be overwhelming. Many people do not want to bother with Twitter, or don’t have time to follow it, yet much useful information is now being released that way. The growing number of blogs and informational websites has added to the huge amount of content of value to writers that is being produced every day. Keeping up with all these sources can be nearly impossible, and that’s where Writing is a Shore Thing comes in. Each day, the online newspaper provides an overview of valuable content, chosen by the editor for its value to writers living or working in the mid-Atlantic region. It combines information of local interest, such as announcements of meetings and events, with solid educational content such as tips for improving writing, interviews, how-to articles, and help for writers who want to self-publish. Readers can quickly scan the headlines and choose which articles to read. The paper does not have to be downloaded and requires no special reading device or software, but loyal readers can choose to be notified by email when each issue becomes available.

The paper’s content varies because it pulls from many sources and is updated every 24 hours, but recent issues have included editing advice, contest announcements, conference news, bookstore and library events, fiction writing how-tos, and information about writers’ group meetings and classes. Writers can even submit content themselves by including links to relevant information in their own Twitter tweets or Facebook posts and adding “#writeshore.” To view today’s issue of the paper, go to www.writingisashorething.com.
