Cat & Mouse Press offers editing services
Cat & Mouse Press, the publisher that runs the annual Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest, is now offering copy editing services to writers who want to self-publish.
Katherine Pickett of POP Editorial Services will work with Cat & Mouse clients to prepare their manuscripts for publication.
Many self-published books contain errors. This is usually because the writers did not have the help of a professional copy editor to catch spelling and grammatical errors, assure consistency, and check manuscript mechanics such as page numbers, chapter headings, and type size. The result can be poor reviews, low readership, and lack of credibility.
Pickett has been involved in the publishing industry since 1999, including five years as an in-house production editor with McGraw-Hill Professional and two years with Elsevier Inc.
“My mission is to make authors look good,” says Pickett. “No one wants to be embarrassed by mistakes and typos in their writing. As an editor with nearly 15 years of experience, I can help writers make their books the best they can be.”
Self-publishers often face a choice between editing their manuscript themselves, which puts them at risk for embarrassing typos and grammatical errors, and employing a professional editor or editing service of unknown quality and uncertain price. Cat & Mouse will offer Pickett’s professional-level services for a flat fee. Writers are invited to try a free two-page sample edit to see the quality of the service for themselves.
Pickett has edited nonfiction trade books; children’s, young adult, and adult fiction; memoirs; academic books and journals; and corporate reports. She owns her own company, POP Editorial Services, www.POPediting.net, and provides copy editing, proofreading, and developmental editing to authors and publishers across the country. Her new book, "Perfect Bound: How to Navigate the Book Publishing Process Like a Pro," is due out in fall 2014.
Cat & Mouse Press was established to produce books and other materials that are fun, entertaining, and of particular interest to residents of and visitors to the Delaware Cape Region.
