Catholic Charities continues to support Hurricane Sandy victims

Apr 28, 2013

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington supports households in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore that were negatively affected by Hurricane Sandy, thanks to the generous donations of community members and funding received by Catholic Charities USA.

People who suffered loss of income or damage to property because of the storm and its aftereffects should call the Catholic Charities office in their county to see if they qualify for assistance. Potential clients will be asked to provide documentation that supports their claim. In addition, clients will need to participate in case management support for at least 60 days with a follow-up after six months. Clients in Sussex County should call 302-856-9578.

“We are gratified to be able to offer additional support for our neighbors who have suffered financial setbacks, property damage or other hardships because of last year’s super storm,” said Richelle A. Vible, executive director.

Catholic Charities’ Hurricane Sandy relief can provide financial support for overdue rent or utility payments, replacement of furniture, bedding or other household goods that were lost or damaged, financial coaching to create budgets or find employment, food cooperative membership that provides monthly distributions of nutritious food, and mental health counseling to help hurricane victims come to terms with the stress and anxiety the event may have caused.

The public can send monetary donations to Catholic Charities, 2601 W. 4th St., Wilmington DE 19805, and indicate Hurricane Sandy relief on the check memo line. Financial donations can also be made with a credit card at www.cdow.org/ccdonation.html. In the Comments section, indicate Hurricane Sandy relief. Catholic Charities also accepts donations of nonperishable food items, gently used clothing and household goods, and local store gift cards.

Call 302-655-9624 to find out how.
