Chamber advisors offer insurance advice
Rehoboth Beach — As the world of health insurance changes with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce called on insurance advisors Jen Wilson and Greg Simeone to discuss the impact of the law on local businesses and how they can help.
Wilson and Simeone represent Wilmington-based Delaware Employee Benefits Exchange, a health insurance exchange platform that allows employees to customize their plans.
“The entire experience really puts the employee in the driver’s seat,” Wilson said. “It’s almost a personal shopper for the employee.”
She said the service helps employers save money on coverage by making defined contributions to employee health care. It also allows employers to streamline administration and billing, Wilson said. For employer and employee, she said, the exchange saves money because employees aren’t overbuying insurance.
Touching on the Affordable Care Act, Simeone said employers with 30 full-time employees must provide health insurance to their employees. He said the mandate for large employers to offer health insurance is Jan. 1, 2015.
