The Eagles fans came to Lincoln Financial Field Sept. 15 to see an up-and-down football offensive game and that is what they got - two times.

San Diego came to Philly a six-point dog but left with a three-point 33-30 victory mainly because they possessed the ball last.

The Chargers amassed 30 first downs in the game, the Eagles 22. The Chargers had 539 yards of offense, the Eagles garnered 512. The two teams totaled 850 yards of passing yardage. The Eagles scuttled the huddle while the Chargers called plays at the line of scrimmage with quarterback Phillip Rivers checking off more than Peyton Manning.

There was not a 100-yard rusher in 1,000 yards of moving the football. There were no interceptions with 83 passes being thrown.

Place kicker Nick Novak kicked four field goals and three PATs for 15 points. The Eagles' Alex Henery had three field goals and three PATs for 12 points.

It was a day for the rugged NFC East when everyone got beaten, with the Redskins losing to Green Bay 38-20, the Giants falling to Denver 41-23, and Dallas losing to Kansas City 17-16.

And a worse nightmare looms four days away as the 2-0 Big Red Machine Kansas City Chiefs of coach Andy Reid come to Philly for a Thursday night prime-time game.

Real football men like Andy Reid are all about the reckoning, and no Eagles fan wants to see Reid get fat off their team.

Notes: The Eagles lost to the Chargers 33-30, but the big three offensive weapons had record-setting days. Vick threw for a career-high 428 yards and three touchdowns; DeSean Jackson amassed 193 receiver yards and a touchdown and a career-high nine receptions. LeSean McCoy racked up 167 scrimmage yards including a career-high 114 receiving yards.

Quotes: Coach Chip Kelly: “We couldn't get them off the field. We have to do a better job generating the pass rush. We went up against an outstanding quarterback. Good pass‑catch combination with him and Gates and didn't seem like we handled that very well.”

Mike Vick was asked about coach Andy Reid coming to Philly on Thursday. "We have a football game to prepare for, and we have to do everything to ensure that we have a chance to win the football game. That is what is most important. It’s our third game in 11 days, but we're conditioned for it. We’re ready for it.”
