On Saturday, Aug. 20, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will host Ian Crandall, co-owner and executive chef of Kindle Restaurant at 111 Bank St. in Lewes.

Crandall has taken comfort food to a new level. At Kindle, he executes a seasonal American menu that uses traditional French methods (a nod to his training at L’Academie de Cuisine) but focuses on simple presentation and fresh ingredients.

The very popular Children's Reading Program at the Market takes place from 9 to 10 a.m. every Saturday at the School House at the Lewes Historical Society Complex. Children's librarian Maureen Miller reads the stories and interacts with the children to plant seeds, make bees out of pipe cleaners, and do lots of other fun projects. The program is designed for ages 3 to 8, but all children are welcome and encouraged to attend with their parents. Each week, a special book is chosen to reflect the themes of growth, change and healthy eating. This week, the featured book is "Up, Down and Around" by Katherine Ayers.

This Saturday offers the seventh chance to enter the raffle for the free bicycle that is given away every year to encourage all to bike or walk to the market. The winning name will be drawn Labor Day weekend. Customers can enter each week for a better chance.

The HLFM organizers hope to win the contest for America’s Favorite Farmers Market. The HLFM is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at The Lewes Historical Society Complex, 110 Shipcarpenter St. in Lewes.
