The 2014 Chefs Fight for Your Heart committee is looking for hometown heroes for the Nov. 8 fundraiser at the Harrington Raceway and Casino.

"Heroes have a lot of heart," said Ludovic Bezy, a professional chef, "and our committee has decided that honoring heroes from across the state is a wonderful theme for this year’s event." For the past three years, he and his wife Anita have organized the annual fundraiser that benefits the American Heart Association.

There are multiple definitions of a hero. One is "someone who in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness displays courage and the will for self-sacrifice for some greater good.”

Organizations and the public are encouraged to nominate heroes. Categories that readily come to mind include firefighters, police, military, EMTs, and others who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

“Everyone knows someone who qualifies for recognition,” said Bezy. People can nominate their hero at www.chefsfight.com or mail in a 100-word entry to: Chefs Fight Committee, 1214 Voshells Mill Road, Dover, DE 19901.

The selectees will be honored at the dinner, which will include chefs who will provide heart-healthy food for the audience to sample and vote on. The event will include costumed superheroes, giveaways, a Chinese auction, a live auction, a mini-health fair, and a superhero dance-off.

The event is supported by Delaware Heart and Vascular, Harrington Raceway and Casino, the Delaware State News, local businesses, and individuals. Gold, silver and bronze sponsorships are also available, as are other special categories for this fun and fundraising night.
