Choral society thanks The Buttery

By Beth Hochholzer | Dec 20, 2013

On behalf of the Southern Delaware Choral Society, I would like to acknowledge the generosity of The Buttery Restaurant in Lewes for hosting a sold-out fundraiser to benefit the SDCS.

Following the well-attended and well-received concert of the Bach Christmas Oratorio Dec. 15, many of the singers and audience members migrated down the road from Cape Henlopen High School to the beautifully decorated Victorian restaurant on Second Street where, despite the large influx of diners within a relatively short period of time, arrivals were relieved of their coats and graciously escorted to their tables.

As guests relaxed and enjoyed convivial company, the wait staff and management moved efficiently and discreetly to take orders and attend to individual requests. As always, the menu items were varied, flavorful, and creatively presented, and out-of-town attendees were charmed by this landmark restaurant in beautiful downtown Lewes.

Among those who made this observation was guest conductor Maestro Simeone Tartaglione, music director of the Newark Symphony Orchestra, associate conductor of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, with conducting experience in Italy, Spain, Russia, Romania, Mexico, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

In closing, I would specifically like to acknowledge the wonderful cooperation, assistance and encouragement of owner John Donato, Manager Lisa McDonald, and Frontman Charlie (that’s what I call him) in helping to create a major fundraiser for the Southern Delaware Choral Society.

At the end of the evening, singers re-tuned their vocal chords for a rousing rendition of "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow" as a thank-you to John and his staff. The music will continue in Lewes Sunday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m., for a Messiah Sing-along. Details may be found at www.southerndelawarechoralsociety.org.
