Choral society to conduct 'Messiah' sing-along Dec. 22
The Southern Delaware Choral Society will host a Handel’s "Messiah" sing-along at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, in the Fellowship Hall of Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 West Fourth St., Lewes.
More than 25 years ago, the chorus was founded to provide music lovers an opportunity to join together to sing this legendary piece that many associate with the holiday season. This year, in an effort to return to their roots, members of the chorus will sit with the audience, which will be divided into sections, and sing excerpts from the piece, including the "Hallelujah Chorus."
Audience members will not be required to sing with their respective vocal section; if they prefer, they may sing with their families. “The chorus members will be easy to recognize. We will wear our traditional performance attire, though festively adorned. Ample room will be allocated for audience members to sit in the section of their choosing, whether to sing, or just to listen,” said Gail Launay, SDCS executive director.
The sing-along will be directed by SDCS interim conductor Ann Freeman with accompaniment provided by Bethel’s Joyce Mentzer.
All are welcome to come and sing or just to listen. Scores will be provided to those who do not have them. The suggested donation is $10 per person, $5 for students with ID. Go to www.southerndelawarechoralsociety.org or call 302-212-2181 for more information.
