Christian Writers' Fellowship to host The Book Event Nov. 9
More than 20 Christian authors will come to Georgetown for The Book Event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9. Hosted by Delmarva Christian Writers' Fellowship, it is the largest Christian book sale of its type. It will be held at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road.
“Although there are other book festivals in Delaware,” said author and publisher Candy Abbott, “this is the first I'm aware of that is uniquely for Christian authors.” Abbott originally planned the event to showcase the group’s writers and debut the DCWF book, "Christmas Presence." “But the more we talked about it, the clearer it became that we shouldn't limit it to our own group, but open the opportunity to other Christian authors in the area.”
Among the local authors attending The Book Event are Candy Abbott, David Michael Smith, Betty Kasperski and Eva Maddox. Such well-known regional writers as Karen Whiting, Dalen Keys, Gloria Adams, Terri Gillespie, Carrie Turansky, and Cathy Gohlke will travel to make the event.
Judi Folmsbee, a picture book author and event coordinator, looks forward to fellowship with other Christian readers and writers. Folmsbee said, “When readers and writers meet face to face, it gives new meaning to the written word.”
The suggested donation is one nonperishable food item, to be included in Crossroad Community Church’s Thanksgiving Basket. The event has a Christmas theme to set the tone for the holidays, and guests can expect refreshments, door prizes, author readings, an activity table and a Shriners clown.
