Churches schedule Ash Wednesday, Lenten and Easter services
St. Jude The Apostle to hold Palm to Ashes Service March 4
St. Jude The Apostle Church will hold its Palm to Ashes Service at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 4. On Ash Wednesday, March 5, Masses will be held at 7:30 a.m., noon and 7 p.m. in the church. Ashes will be distributed at all Masses on Ash Wednesday. The Lenten Daily Eucharist will be held at 7:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday in the church. Stations of the Cross will occur at 4 p.m. every Friday during Lent in the church. Eucharistic Adoration is available in the chapel from 6 a.m. Monday through noon Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
St. Jude’s is on the northbound side of Route 1, just north of Five Points.
All Saints, St. George's set Ash Wednesday services
To begin an observance of a holy Lent, services of Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes will be held Ash Wednesday, March 5, at the following times and locations: 8 a.m. and noon at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, and 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at St. George’s Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road (Route 23) in Harbeson. Groome, Faith and Israel UM churches announce Ash Wednesday services
Groome, Faith, and Israel United Methodist churches will hold a combined service at 7 p.m., Ash Wednesday, March 5, at Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes. The speaker will be Rev. Jerome Tilghman, pastor of Faith and Israel churches. Special gospel music will be provided by The Unity Male Chorus of Lewes. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Groome’s sanctuary will be open for prayer from 4 to 6 p.m., Ash Wednesday, as it is on every Wednesday. Groome is at the corner of Savannah Road and Dewey Avenue in Lewes.
Long Neck UMC to host Ash Wednesday service March 5
Long Neck United Methodist Church will offer Ash Wednesday Worship at 7 p.m., March 5. During the season of Lent, Long Neck will celebrate Holy Communion at every worship service. Morning worship will take place at 8:45 and 11 a.m., Palm Sunday, April 13. A 7 p.m. service is scheduled for Maundy Thursday, April 17. Sunrise service will take place at 7 a.m., Easter Sunday, April 20, at Massey's Landing. Regular Sunday morning worship will take place at 8:45 and 11 a.m., Easter Sunday. All Saints’ & St. George’s offer weekly Lenten series starting March 13
The Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel in Rehoboth Beach and Harbeson is hosting a Lenten series, Encountering the Holy, on five consecutive Thursdays beginning March 13. The series begins at 11:30 a.m. with a service of Holy Eucharist and healing. The service is followed by a free soup and bread luncheon provided by the Episcopal Church Women board and chapters and men’s groups, with a presentation and discussion after the meal.
The March 13 topic, Lenten Spiritual Practices, will be presented by the parish’s assistant rector, the Rev. Lara C.S. Stroud. The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Kaeton will present Living the Questions March 20. The March 27 topic will be What is the One Thing You Want to Know Before You Die? and the Rev. Rusty Hesse will be the featured speaker. The Stature of Waiting will be presented April 3 by Pastor David Risseeuw, and Pastor Tom White will present Living a Resurrected Life April 10.
The series is held at All Saints’ Church at 18 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, except for the April 10 service and program, which will be held at St. George’s parish hall at 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Route 23 near Harbeson. All Saints', St. George's present Fauré Requiem March 22 and 23
The Fauré Requiem, a Lenten offering by the Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel, will be presented at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at All Saints’ Church and at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 23, at St. George’s Chapel under the direction of Beverly Morgan. Paul Reif, boy soprano, Colin James, baritone, and a nine-piece orchestra including harp will be joined by the parish choir. Washington, D.C. organist Rob Church, the parish’s artist in residence, is guest organist. Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), an organist, pianist and teacher, is one of the foremost French composers of his generation. His Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, is a short requiem lasting 35 minutes, written for orchestra, organ, mixed chorus and two soloists, and performed in Latin. It consists of seven movements; the most famous is the central soprano aria "Pie Jesu." This event is offered to the public at no charge; a free-will offering will be taken.
