The Cinema & Art series will present a screening of the acclaimed documentary “Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia” Thursday, March 13, at The Inn at Canal Square, 122 Market St. in Lewes.

This new documentary is a memorial to one of America’s most opinionated and outspoken public figures in the 20th century, Gore Vidal. Writer/director Nicholas Wrathall paints the portrait of Vidal’s eventful life as a novelist, playwright, polemicist, and public intellectual.

A reception with light refreshments begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film screening at 7 p.m. and then a post-screening discussion. This event is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Rehoboth Art League, and The Inn at Canal Square.

Gore Vidal’s professional life spanned more than 50 years of American politics, and in that time he had a profound effect on the worlds of literature, film, and politics. Anchored by a blend of intimate one-on-one interviews with the man himself along with footage from Vidal’s legendary on-air career, Wrathall reminds watchers why he stands as one of the most brilliant and fearless critics of recent times.

Featuring footage of Vidal in his final years, the film explores his views on America in the 21st century and his global impact on art, politics, the current state of the republic and the health of U.S. democracy. This new documentary tells the fascinating story of one of the most prolific figures in the age of American liberalism.

Attorney and former judge Mitch Crane will be present to introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion.

Seating is limited, and reservations are required. Tickets are $15 each (includes prescreening refreshments and film screening), and can be purchased at www.rehobothfilm.com or by calling 302-645-9095, Ext.1. Note that tickets are nonrefundable.
