The City of Lewes settled Dec. 27 on the 5.9-acre Thompson property which it contracted to purchase from the Thompson family for $2.5 million. The property lies between Stango Park and Freeman Highway and is bounded on the north by Monroe Avenue.
Future plans for the property include a new Lewes Public Library and a trailhead with parking for several trails that will intersect on the property. City officials and others gathered with Blake Thompson at City Hall for the signing of papers and a champagne celebration.
Negotiations for purchase of the property have been ongoing for three years.
