Clara A. Barba, 'Born to Polka'

Clara A. Barba, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Foulk Manor North, Wilmington.

Clara came to Wilmington from Hazleton, Pa in the 30s, working as a nanny. During the Second World War, she worked at the Pusey & Jones Shipyard welding amphibious troop transport vehicles. She worked numerous jobs over the years, retiring from Pathmark. Clara was very proud of her Polish heritage; her favorite thing to do was polka dance. She traveled up and down the Eastern seaboard attending various polka dances.

She was predeceased by her husband Frank Barba Sr. in 1982. She is survived by her two sons, Frank Jr. and Anthony Barba, both of Wilmington; four grandsons, Frank, Nick, Eric, and Matthew; and three sisters, Rose Sekscinski of Rehoboth Beach, Terry Gears of Inwood, W.Va. and Frances Ottoviani of Melbourne Beach, Fla.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Matthews Church, 907 W. Newport Pike, Newport. Interment followed Mass in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a contribution in Clara's name to the charity of your choice.
