Clarifying Rehoboth Farmers Market policy

By Diane B. Pirkey | Aug 16, 2013

I wish to clarify a misunderstanding by Mayor Sam Cooper, as stated in the Aug. 12 edition of the Cape Gazette, about the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market allowing a petition about the proposed Rehoboth dock and water service taxi.

The mayor stated that he thought it was "not appropriate" for the Rehoboth dock association to have had a petition at the farmers market, because he said "other organizations do not have the same opportunity," implying that the Rehoboth dock had preferential treatment at the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market.

In fact, any nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) can have a petition at the RBFM. The Rehoboth dock and water service taxi requested permission to have the petition at the RBFM, and it was signed by many customers, many of whom supported the dock.

Requests for having petitions at the RBFM can be made to the Market Master, Pat Coluzzi (pat@rbfarmersmarket.com), or to myself (dpirkey@aol.com).
