Clear Space announces Arts Institute fall class scheduleExpanded offerings for youth and adults begin Sept. 11
The Clear Space Theatre Company has announced the class schedule for the fall semester of the Clear Space Arts Institute. The new, expanded schedule of 10-week classes offers instruction in the performing arts for students of all ages.
Artistic Director Doug Yetter said, “Every year we assess the offerings in the Arts Institute and make changes to ensure we are presenting the community the best we have to offer in performing arts education. The fall semester is exciting for all of us and truly has something for everyone.”
Classes for young performers, grades 1-8, include the Broadway Bound program instructed by industry professionals Melanie Bradley, music; Christa Pardocchi, dance; and Kevin Smith, acting. The program starts Tuesday, Sept. 17, with class from 5 to 7p.m. and is designed to enrich the lives of students through the performing arts.
Gotta Dance! led by instructor Christa Pardocchi will meet for its opening class from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, for musical theater students who wish to focus on jazz, ballet and tap techniques. Children’s Acting Technique, taught by Kevin Smith, is offered from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursdays starting Sept. 19 for students who wish to focus more specifically on dramatic studies through technique in improvisation, physicality, voice, and working as an ensemble. Both Children’s Acting and Gotta Dance! may be used as companion classes for those enrolled in Broadway Bound. The semester culminates in a final group performance Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Adult performers from senior high to seniors have a wide variety of classes from which to choose as well. Adult Dance, 5 to 7 p.m. on Mondays starting Sept. 16 is for adults who wish to expand their education in musical theater dance, whether for personal craft or just for fun. Students will be guided by Christa Pardocchi through jazz and tap styles focusing on proper alignment, flexibility, muscle control and correct execution of technique.
The Broadway Legends: Musical Theatre class for students 50 and older will rehearse an abridged version of the musical "Chicago" from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 11 with David Button and Doug Yetter as instructors. This class offers the joy of performing without the added pressure of memorization or complex staging. Learn the score to this popular musical, including “All That Jazz,” “Mister Cellophane,” “Cell Block Tango,” and more. The semester concludes with a public performance.
New this fall on Sunday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. starting Sept. 15 are the Acting Company workshops coordinated by Elaine Faye. Yetter said, “This is probably the most exciting change we’ve made to the Arts Institute - a wide variety of acting workshops, all designed to enhance the adult performers’ knowledge of the craft, and inviting the community to participate, is certain to garner new interest and activity in the Acting Company.”
The one-hour sessions have been designed to improve existing skills through exercises including technique, Shakespearean interpretation, monologue/scenes, improv principles and more led by Clear Space Acting Company members and other professionals.
These programs are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
