Coach Steve Re was wound tighter than an Egyptian mummy inside The Cave at Woodbridge Feb. 28 where first row fans did the rise and slide with every basket.

The Vikings were without leading scorer Tyreik Burton, able but iced on the bench by the head coach for a disciplinary infraction.

“We were going to win without him but he was going to be a part of it and we all go to the Bob on Sunday to face Howard," Re said

Cape jumped out early 19-9, withstood a Woodbridge comeback that tied the game late at 40 then sailed away at the end for a 58-50 victory.

Jon Warren led Cape with 20 points while Toney Floyd chipped in 17.

Khalil Carroll with 15 and Cornell Corbin with12 led the Raiders .

‘Hey that’s why we say- that's how we play,” Coach Re screamed, joined his team in the locker room and everyone did the jump around.

“I never had more fun but I was nervous as hell the whole game," Re said. "These guys are just awesome."

“How about all our guys? ”Re said. “I could stand here and talk about every one one of them. It’s always been about the team."

“Look at the job done by Jon Jon and Toney, how about Thornburg busting two threes in the first period, Piper and Howell off the bench and David Kwan on the boards and Solomon Cox all over the place," Re said.

Cape led 22-9 at the end of one period sending a message that the Cape team showed up to go after a win. The Raiders took the punch and brought the score to 30-28 at halftime.

Early in the fourth quarter the game was tied at 40. Noah Piper hit two free throws to put Cape up 42-40. Floyd and Warren hit Cape's remaining 16 points keeping the Vikings in front and earning a 58-50 victory.

Cape will play Howard at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 2 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
