Coastal-Georgetown AAUW to meet Sept. 19
The Costal-Georgetown Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its September meeting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, at Sedona in Bethany Beach.
Membership in AAUW is open to anyone with an associate degree or equivalent, e.g., RN, or higher degree from an accredited institution. This meeting is designed to help members and prospective members learn more about AAUW, focus on what the different C-G committees will be doing in 2013-14 and learn more about each other. The AAUW mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
AAUW has been empowering women as individuals and as a community since 1881. Current C-G Branch programs focus on the importance of supporting girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as part of its mission to break through barriers for women and girls.
In addition to contributing to national and international fellowships, the C-G Branch annually awards the Virginia Rust Scholarship for a female graduating from one of the four public high schools in the area who is continuing her education.
