Congratulations Milton and Mayor Jones
Congratulations, Milton! Thank you, Mayor Jones and town council! Finally an adhoc committee to examine carefully, the scope and purpose and cost of our Milton Police Department. Wonderful!
At long last, the opportunity to learn how large a force Milton really needs; how to budget appropriately and work to make salaries competitive, but without overextending taxpayer dollars; how to instill pride in our town and its force and do likewise for those wearing the Milton uniform, and all in transparency with this special ad hoc!
Not only does our chief have a seat at the table (a committee member himself), but professional police from the area and citizen representatives from our town are doing the good and worthwhile work of finally putting to rest so much misinformation about the MPD.
In answer to a neighbor's recent question - "What happened?" - regarding salary increases and new hires to fill open positions and apparently, with few protests against such options coming from the public, and all put to the Cape Gazette and its readers (Aug. 16-19 edition) in its Viewpoints section, well, that question seems to have answered itself!
'Action' is the answer. Mayor Jones and council took action. Where indecisiveness and inaction had been the norm for too many years, Milton now has a chance to move above and beyond the divisiveness caused by too many unexamined issues from the past.
We will all be watching as this trusted panel continues its worthwhile work on behalf of not only the MPD, but all of Milton. Once again, "Congratulations, Milton, and thank you, Mayor Jones and council!"
