Congressman John Carney has announced the names of 40 high school seniors to whom he awarded Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition for distinguished public service. The students were nominated for this award by their school principals or guidance counselors based on a record of outstanding and invaluable service to their community. Each student received their certificate at their school’s graduation or senior award ceremony.

“I spend a lot of time visiting Delaware schools, and I am always impressed with the work that so many young people in our state are doing to enrich the lives of others,” said Congressman Carney. “Every day, Delaware students volunteer their time to pack and deliver meals to seniors, help care for those who are sick and in the hospital, or reach out to those in our community with disabilities. Being able to manage their school work, plan for their future, and still take time to help others shows me that they have the skills, compassion, and dedication to become strong leaders in our community. That’s the attitude that I try to encourage through this award, and I hope these students will continue to devote their time to public service going forward.”

Cape Region students receiving the award include Aaliya Reese, Cape Henlopen High School; Kathleen Workman, Delmarva Christian High School; Jacob Rickards, Indian River High School; Matthew Conlin, St. Thomas More Academy; Heidi Morales, Sussex Central High School; Lacey Perdue, Sussex Technical High School; and Patricia Yoc-Roblero, Sussex Technical High School.
