Connecting Generations awarded funding for AmeriCorps Youth AmbassadorsApplication process now open for positions
Connecting Generations has been awarded $187,500 in funding for 15 AmeriCorps Youth Ambassadors to serve in Delaware schools from Oct. 1, 2013, to Sept. 30, 2014. The funding comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service. This is the fourth year that Connecting Generations has placed Youth Ambassadors in Delaware schools where they are primarily responsible for coordinating mentoring programs and connecting mentees with community and school services and programs. The program is in partnership with Communities in Schools of Delaware.
Ambassadors ensure that mentees in their identified schools and community sites are connected with academic, physical, and/or social services needed to be successful. This award represents increased funding for an additional five members, bringing the total to 15 youth ambassadors.
The youth ambassador working with AmeriCorps through Connecting Generations has the ability and resources to lead a dynamic, powerful program. A recent eighth-grade mentee said, “Throughout the time I’ve been with her she has showed me a different world and things I should do and shouldn’t do, and I think I am better because she was my mentor.” As research shows, a mentor/mentee relationship is vibrant, positive and long lasting in effect.
Connecting Generations is actively seeking applications for these positions. An Ideal candidate should have experience in working with school-age children, be at least 23 years of age and have a bachelor’s degree or demonstrated relevant experience in education, social work or a related field. In addition, candidates must be able to effectively communicate orally in one-on-one and group settings and be able to effectively communicate in writing.
Youth ambassadors receive a living stipend, educational award and a unique experience.
