Consider overall welfare of West Rehoboth
The Village Improvement Association is a 104-year-old nonprofit organization composed of 220 women whose mission is to promote and further the interests, improvements and progress of Rehoboth Beach. In recent years, this mission has included working with the West Rehoboth Community Land Trust to promote revitalization of the community of West Rehoboth.
Our members have dedicated volunteer hours on various projects that support the community with affordable housing and after school programming for the children. Progress is being made.
This is a plea to the Sussex County Council, the Attorney General of Delaware and the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, to deny a permit to allow the Delaware Firearms, LLC to sell guns at a proposed location in the heart of West Rehoboth, an historic African American community.
During the last five years new housing opportunities have been created, revitalization programs initiated, and steps taken to address safety in this community. There are many children in the community, and to locate a gun shop in the community's midst would surely create serious safety issues for those who live there.
It is essential to consider the overall welfare of the community of West Rehoboth and to support the continued progress of the town's revitalization by denying a permit for a gun shop in West Rehoboth.
