Cut speed limits and cut tragedies

By Chuck Quinlan | Aug 07, 2013

Story after story about pedestrian safety and traffic fatalities in lower Sussex County appear in every issue of our paper, but never any story about reducing the speed on our roads. Speed cuts our reaction time, so if we slow everyone down we could possibly save lives.

Now we see that there is little money available for Sussex County. How about some money for new signs that have newer slower speed limits on them? It's a shame that all those involved have to come up with studies and grandiose plans when we have a chance to slow everyone down, make our turning lanes last longer, and what a start that would be, at a very low cost, but great results.

Do we need another study that takes years when we all know that the easy solution is slow down or pay the fine?
