The cycle of sameness continues to plague the Cape boys' basketball team. Six times over 13 games, the Vikings have followed up a big win with an even bigger loss.

Jan. 28 at Sussex Central, Cape tanked against a 2-8 Golden Knights team they had beaten by 29 points just two weeks earlier, losing 49-48.

Cape had the ball and the lead in four of its losses with elapsing time on their side but like a rolling stone, it was downhill to defeat.

And now the Vikings are no longer in control of their own championship destiny; that belongs to Sussex Tech.

Tyreik Burton, who went over 1,000 career points in the game, led all scorers with 21 points.  No other Vikings were in double figures. The Vikings left points on the floor, shooting 13-22 from the free-throw line.

The Golden Knights were paced by Amontay Clanton with 16 and Wayna Hanzer with 15.

The Vikings, now 7-6, will host Caesar Rodney Friday, Jan. 31.

The Riders are 12-2, having beaten Sussex Central twice by a total of 3 points and Polytech by 1. The Riders defeated Cape in overtime Jan. 10.
