Danish String Quartet plays at The Jefferson School

Source: Submitted The acclaimed Danish String Quartet gives a unique performance at The Jefferson School, with members telling students between selections how they first became interested in music and answering questions from the audience.

Coastal Concerts recently brought the Danish String Quartet to The Jefferson School in Georgetown to share a unique musical performance. Between selections, the Scandinavian quartet gave information on their instruments and how they became interested in pursuing professional careers devoted to music and shared the joys of playing together in a quartet. Afterward, students asked questions and lined up for autographs.

Eighth-grade student Ayla Lahiff said, “The concert was amazing! The songs produced such vivid images.”

“Their music was very beautiful and inspiring! I play the piano myself and might pick up the violin,” said seventh-grade student Ellyes Baghouli.

The Danish String Quartet, formerly known as the Young Danish String Quartet, is composed of cellist Fredrik Sjolin and violinists Frederik Oland, Rune Tonsgaard Sorensen, and Asbjorn Norgaard. Recently named to Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's prestigious CMS Two program, the Danish String Quartet made its debut in the Copenhagen Summer Festival in 2002. In a remarkably short time, the quartet drew attention to itself for its highly committed musicianship and enthralling style.
