De Kuyper trial set Nov. 19 in NYC
A jury trial for Lewes resident John Scott de Kuyper, accused of bringing a weapon into a New York City courthouse earlier this year, is scheduled Monday, Nov. 19 in New York City.
De Kuyper was previously scheduled to appear in New York City court Oct. 3 in connection with charges filed against him in 2010 following an Occupy Wall Street protest. Court records state de Kuyper lunged at a veteran New York City police officer and tried to rip his badge off.
He faces charges of attempted grand larceny, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. De Kuyper denies the charges. In February, he was scheduled to appear in a New York City courthouse on the charges; he entered the courthouse with a gun and ammunition in a book bag he was carrying. De Kuyper says it was a mistake; he forgot the gun was in the book bag.
New York authorities charged him with a felony weapons charge as a result of the courthouse incident.
A jury trial on the original charges was scheduled Oct. 3, but was continued until Nov. 19 when the court will address de Kuyper's weapons charges. De Kuyper remains out on $50,000 cash bail.
