Delaware Poetry Review releases new issue

Mar 09, 2014

Now available online, the newest issue of the Delaware Poetry Review features a generous selection of poems by nine authors with ties to the Delmarva Region.

The issue was masterfully compiled by guest editor Billie Travalini, who teaches at Wilmington University, cofounded the Lewes Creative Writing Conference, and coedited the anthology "On the Mason-Dixon Line: An Anthology of Contemporary Delaware Writers." She chose for her theme the Transforming Power of Silence. Poems in this special issue explore inner space, deep thought, and the essential nature of quiet.

The featured writers in the new issue are Sherry Chappelle, winner of the 2011 Dogfish Head Poetry Prize; Tina Raye Dayton, winner of the 2012 Dogfish Head Poetry Prize; Alison Funk, author of four books, winner of awards from the Poetry Society of America and the National Endowment for the Arts; Vanessa Haley, psychotherapist and author of a book of poems; Allen Heggen, teacher in the writing program at the University of Delaware; Meghan McClure, who studied with former Delaware Poet Laureate Fleda Brown and is an anti-poverty activist for women in Zimbabwe; James O’Neill Miller, who teaches English at the Community College of Philadelphia and at writing workshops throughout Delaware; Nuala Ni Chonchuir, who recently visited from her home in Galway, Ireland to lead workshops at the Lewes Creative Writers’ Conference; and Jeremy Penna, a translator of ancient literary texts and teacher of English as a Second Language.
