With one week remaining in the summer season, the Scorpions took a 5-4 win from the Coyotes yesterday. The Coyotes had gone out to a 2-1 lead after the opening half with a pair of goals by McKenna Boyle while Madison Short had the goal for the Scorpions. The second half belonged to the Scorpions when Raegan Ciabattoni scored four goals to give the victory to the Scorpions. Boyle got her third goal of the game and Josie Peranteau finished out the scoring for the Coyotes.

Aftter a slow first half where the Cougars managed a goal by Lily Ashby, the team came alive to defeat the Jaguars by a final of 5-0. Second half goals by Macy Steinwedel, Ashby (2), and Rylee Lynch completed the scoring for the Cougars.

On Monday, July 7 the Cougars will face the Scorpions at 5:45 followed by the Coyotes and the Rattlers at 6:30 on the Bermuda fields at Cape Henlopen HS.

 

In the Senior Division, the league leading Warriors had the night off but the Seahawks were able to pick up some breathing room in their quest for a place in the championship game with a 6-5 win over the Surfers. The teams were tied at 3-3 going into the second half and game was not decided until Kelly Smith’s game winner with 6:01 remaining in the contest. The Seahawk scoring in the opening half came from a pair of goals by Lindsay Williams and a goal by Marissa LeGates (assisted by Williams). Taylor Smith, Alexa Hendrickson, and Anna Harrington had the goals for the Surfers in the opening half. Karissa LeMaire gave the Surfers the lead with her goal at 19:25 but Lexi Woodruff tied the game for the Seahawks at 16:55. Lexi Gooch then scored to give the lead to the Seahawks before the game winner by Smith. Vienna Iacona scored with 35 seconds remaining to make the final 6-5.

The Windriders and Pirates saved all the scoring until the second half with the Windriders coming out on top by a final of 5-2. Carey Karl, Sarah Mushrush (2), Madi Irwin, and Marcella Sabbagh had the goals for the Windriders while Jenna Steele and Jarad Kay had the Pirate goals.

The Windriders face the Surfers at 5:45 on Monday while the Seahawks play the Warriors at 6:45 on the turf at Cape Henlopen HS.
