The Indian River Life-Saving Station will host its final free summer guest speaker at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29.

William Grayson, author of "Delaware’s Ghost Towers," will speak about Delaware in the early days of World War II and the mysterious concrete towers that dot the Delaware coast. These so-called ghost towers, used to guard against enemy attacks from the ocean, have served as local landmarks for decades. They are a silent reminder of the brave soldiers who patrolled Delaware’s shorelines at a time when fear of German invasion gripped the nation. This presentation will focus on the history of the towers and the artillery found at Fort Miles today.
