DelDOT issues storm preparedness plan

Mar 24, 2014

As yet another winter storm approaches Delaware, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation have made necessary plans and preparations.

Many crews spent time today preloading trucks with salt and making other preparations with the equipment in anticipation of the storm.

Because temperatures tomorrow are expected to reach into the high 30s in the northern parts of the state and the low 40s in Sussex County, much of the forecasted snow should melt upon contact with the road surface.  Nevertheless, drivers will need to remain vigilant because roads may be slushy and visibility will be reduced during the storm.

In Kent and Sussex counties, the current plan is to have all crews report at 7 a.m..

However, these plans could change as the storm nears, and if the forecast changes.

DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center will remain on station through the night monitoring not just forecasts, but also road temperatures, and traffic cameras, in case DelDOT needs to mobilize more crews or if they need to be mobilized earlier.
