Delmarva Christian girls share gift with Milford basketball team
Following a scrimmage against Milford High School, the Delmarva Christian High School girls’ basketball team extended an invitation to their opponents to join them in prayer. Although this practice is nothing new for the DCHS athletes - the tradition began 10 years ago - what they did afterward was unique. The DCHS Royals presented a basketball designed with bold colors and simple words, all as a means to tell the gospel story to the Milford Buccaneers.
“As our captains presented the basketball and explained it, the Milford players’ faces lit up," said DCHS senior Jayne Stevens. "It was evident they were interested in what was being shared. While playing time on the court is important in helping our team improve, it is the prayer time and evangelism after the game that is truly amazing.”
The DCHS girls were further encouraged as they left the gym and saw some of the Milford girls showing the basketball and explaining the story to their families and friends.
“While it’s important to play hard and strive to win games, we can’t lose focus of whom we represent and what our mission really is,” Jayne said.
The DCHS Lady Royals plan to present basketballs to other teams during the 2013-14 season.
