Delmarva Christian High School performed its first full musical, "Fiddler on the Roof," to rave audience reviews this spring.

More than 40 DCHS students were directly involved in the school's production, and many others helped make the play a tremendous success. Students, parents, teachers and members of the surrounding community joined the effort.

"I've attended many other high school performances over the years, and I thought Delmarva Christian's performance of 'Fiddler on the Roof' surpassed all the others. It was a stellar performance! Job well done," said Paula Swenkowski after watching the school's rendition of the renowned classic.

Pam Parker said, "The performance was awesome. The cast and the crew did an excellent job and Mr. Douglas did an outstanding job casting the play. The students were absolutely awesome."

"Wow! I did not have any anticipation when we started this school year that the growing arts department at DCHS would have the energy, ambition and resources to pull together our first full musical," said Principal Mike Vonhof.

More than three years ago, W. Scott Kemerling, the founding principal of DCHS, desired to see the school's arts program grow to include performing arts in addition to the already established visual arts class. After finding the right individual to lead the charge and with the support of the DCHS Board, Jonathan Douglas was hired. Since then, Douglas has taken Kemerling's original vision and shaped it into a program. This year, the DCHS arts program has expanded with the addition of Linda Perry, who is directing the choral program, and Patti McCallum, who has begun an instrumental program.

DCHS players (l-r) Shannon Bowers, Caleb Weed, Haley Timko, Marshall Oppel and Alex Murphy perform a portion of one of the songs, "The Rumor." (Source: Submitted)
