Dewey Beach celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Chihuahua dog races
Registration is now open for the Chihuahua and small dog races being held during Dewey Beach’s third annual Cinco de Mayo family celebration Saturday, May 3.
The race will be held in a fenced-in area next to the Dewey Beach Life Saving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Avenue, beginning at 11 a.m. The fastest Chihuahua will receive a $100 prize. There will be a second I Wish I Was a Chihuahau Race, with a $50 prize, for dogs weighing less than 20 pounds.
The entry fee is $20 for each dog entered and all net proceeds for the weekend events will be donated to the Dewey Beach Patrol.
Dogs can be registered by sending an email to Cinco de Mayo coordinator Joe Kane at email@example.com or by mail to PO Box 1329, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Registration will also be available the morning of the event.
All participating dogs must have a Dewey Beach dog license, obtainable at town hall, 105 Rodney Ave. Dog owners may all fill out Dewey Beach dog license applications at the Life Saving Station registration site on the morning of the event.
Special 2014 Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Dog Race T-shirts will be available for $20.
