Dewey Beach Scooter Nation holds ride for Surfrider Foundation

Oct 16, 2013
More than 58 scooter riders joined the Dewey Beach Scooter Nation for a charity ride around Rehoboth and Dewey.

In its sixth year, the annual Scooter Charity Ride toured the Cape Region, visiting local businesses that support the group year round.

Five stops, including Hammerheads Dockside, Beachcomber Restaurant & Club, Bethany Blues Lewes, Big Chill Cantina, Shorebreak Lodge and Hammerheads Dewey Beach all provided restaurant specials for the riders.

A donation of $20 per rider collected $1,700 this year. Several local businesses donated products, services, gift cards and clothing to be raffled off at the end of the ride. All proceeds go to the local Surfrider Foundation Delaware Chapter.

For coming events look for 'Dewey Beach Scooter Nation 2' on Facebook , and look for the group in the Rehoboth Christmas Parade where they chant "look twice - save a life." For more information on the Delaware Surfriders go to

Boots, founder of the charity ride, also known as Robert  DiGiacomo, made all the arrangements along with Carla DiGiacomo and Michele Orzechowski. Each rider received a T-shirt with the registration fee.
