Dewey group thanks Restaurant Olympics supporters

By Kelly Ranieri | Sep 03, 2013

The Dewey Business Partnership hosted the third annual Restaurant Olympics Aug. 6 at Dickinson Avenue and the bay to raise money for public safety initiatives in Dewey Beach. Twenty-four teams competed in various athletic and skill games with the final winning teams competing in a tug-of-war.

We would like to congratulate The Rusty Rudder Bar team as our 2013 champions! The Rudder Bar defeated our second-place winner The Lighthouse in a fierce tug -of-war battle.

Stingray took third with the overall highest points scored in each heat. It was a great day for all resort restaurant and bar employees.

The Restaurant Olympics could not have been a success if it wasn’t for an excellent team of organizers, supporters and sponsors. We would like to thank our national sponsor, Jagermeister and Kimberly McKenzie-Derbyshire for supporting the Olympics for the third year in a row. Many thanks go to Delaware Marine Group and idewey.com for their donation of kayaks, life vests and paddles for the water races.

Also, many thanks to local entertainment app GET OUT and the Ad Boat for updating us on the games, scores and posting pictures as they happened in real time. Additional thanks to Dewey Beach Town Manager Marc Applebaum, Dewey Beach Police, Highway One, the staffs from the Rusty Rudder, the Lighthouse, Starboard and Woody’s, Sue from the Cultured Pearl, the Jolly Trolley for their flexibility and The Starboard for hosting the after-party.

A huge thank you to our core team of organizers and referees Stephanie and Zeke Przygocki, Liz Tuskweth, Jimmy O’ Conor, Lighthouse Lo, Meggin Holtzclaw, Amanda Pace, Mali Belcamino, Douggie “Fresh” Moore, Kenny Garfinkel, Rebecca Mooney, Chris Mal and our MC Steve Capik.

Finally, thanks to all of our participating teams: Conch Island, Rusty Rudder, Stingray, Cultured Pearl, Nicola Pizza, Grotto Pizza, Jimmy’s Grille, Dogfish Head, Espuma, Cabo, Bethany Blues Lewes, Rusty Rudder, Northbeach, Nalu, Woody’s, Big Fish Grill, Ivy, Starboard, Bottle and Cork, Lighthouse and TGI Fridays.

See you in 2014!
