Dewey resident thanks Sen. Lopez

By Robert B. Duncan | Dec 09, 2013

I am writing to thank Senator Ernie Lopez publicly for his essential role in correcting a road safety hazard in the Town of Dewey Beach.

The third block of Cullen Street is the main vehicular and pedestrian entrance to north Dewey Beach, and DelDOT is responsible for its maintenance. A defective storm drainage system there has forced beach goers and produce market customers to walk in the middle of the street for several days after every rainfall.

The manager of Fifer Orchard's Dewey store and I asked Senator Lopez to urge DelDOT to correct his road safety hazard. Senator Lopez not only accompanied a DelDOT engineer for an on-site inspection of the problem, but also allocated funds at his discretion to pay for the cost of the DelDOT recommended solution.

The corrective work has been completed and the problem eliminated. Many visitors to Dewey Beach will benefit from this example of Senator Lopez's effective leadership.
