DEWEY BEACH — The highly visible Sea Esta Motel I in Dewey Beach is undergoing a series of exterior renovations.

George Metz, son of owner Carolyn Metz, said the motel, located at 24 Houston St., is getting new decks, railings, balconies and stairwells on the north and south sides.

“We replaced the front stairwells three or four years ago and now it's time to do the rest,” he said.

Metz said the building was constructed in the early 1960s and the last time these exterior pieces were replaced was in the late '80s or early '90s.

“It was time. You've always got to do some type of renovation,” he said.

The work began mid-February and is expected to by completed by mid-April, with a reopening date near the end April, said Metz.

“We'll be open in time for the beginning of the season for sure,” he said.
