DNREC's latest Wetlands 101 video now available on YouTube
Visitors to DNREC’s website are invited to check out the second installment in the Wetlands 101 video series on YouTube’s Delaware DNREC channel, produced with the Division of Watershed Stewardship’s Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program. The series is designed as an introduction to Delaware’s wetlands.
The first video, released in June 2012, focused on how to identify a wetland, while the new video focuses on what wetlands do for Delawareans. “The 3 P’s” tells how wetlands help to purify water, provide habitat for commercially important fisheries, and protect coastal communities from storms and floods. The five-minute video features scenic wetland footage, interesting facts, demonstrations, and live wetland wildlife.
Wetlands comprise approximately 25 percent of the land area in the state, and DNREC sound the alarm that they are being degraded and destroyed each year. When these wetlands are filled and converted, the benefits they provide are lost. The Wetlands 101 series strives to highlight the importance of wetlands to every person in the state.
In addition to “The 3 P’s,” the Delaware DNREC YouTube Channel offers more than 50 interesting and educational videos, taking viewers from the unique steam car collection at Auburn Heights Preserve to the trails and pathways of Cape Henlopen State Park, and from the Delaware Bayshore to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and many of the First State’s great outdoors places in between. Most of these videos are written and produced in-house by the DNREC Office of Public Affairs.
