Donald William Dorman, retired sales associate

Donald William Dorman, 75, of Abingdon, Md., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at his home.  Born in Lewes, he was the son of the late William C. and Alice L. Beauchamp Dorman.

Don was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving his country for four years. After his discharge, he was employed by the International Harvester Company in Bel Air, Md. After many years there, he took a job at Plaza Ford car dealership in Bel Air and excelled there as a senior sales associate,  eventually retiring from there in 1998.  He was a devoted member of the Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren where he served many years as deacon, usher and commission member.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and a longtime member of the Harford Region Antique Automobile Club of America.  He owned and loved antique cars and everything automobile related, and treasured listening to country music.

Mr. Dorman is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Dorman of Abingdon, Md.; daughter, Joanna May Smith and husband John of Forest Hill, Md.; sisters, Barbara Dorman and Mary Lou Dickson of Lewes; grandchildren, Melissa L. Smith-Levy of Bel Air, and Heather L. Smith of Forest Hill; great-grandchildren, Leota and Hannah; and two nephews, Chuck and Mark Riley of Lewes.

Visitation will be held at McComas Funeral Home P.A. in Abingdon from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26.  Services will be at the funeral home in Abingdon at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, with the Rev. Peter L. Haynes of The Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren officiating.  Interment will be at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air.
