Dr. Patrick Harvey, 30, wins Rusty Rudder 5K in 17:46.1
The 11th Annual Rusty Rudder 5K Run/Walk took place June 30 in Dewey Beach with 452 registered runners and walkers. The top five men all had impressive and close times with the winner emerging from the pack about 50 yards before the finish line.
Patrick Harvey, age 30, from Philadelphia won the race in a time of 17:46.1. Harvey just finished his residency in Philadelphia and is an emergency room doctor.
Second place was Patrick Gallucci Jr., 17, in a time of 17:46.7 which is the closest runner-up in Seven Sisters race history. Third place went to 14-year-old Andrew Weir in 17:48.8 and fourth place was 17-year-old Presten Demarreau in 17:55.4. Rounding out the top five was 15-year-old Sean Ryan in 18:10.
The women's winner was Lisa Veneziano from Fenton, Mich., in 19:13.5. She and her husband were on their annual vacation to the Delaware beaches which always includes a Ten Sisters event. Lisa holds degrees from Penn State and University of Michigan. She also was the overall female winner of the Pump and Run with 50 reps. Tara Cavaselis from Wilmington was the runner-up in 19:53.1. and Alyssa Pietrobono from Philadelphia was third in 20:05.
The male masters winner was Matt Cutrona from Wilmington in 18:24, and the female masters winner was Louise Nunan from Ocean City, N.J., in a time of 20:19. Team Lewey Dewey won the beach house competition for the fastest beach house team and also took the Spirit Award for the enthusiasm and bright-colored team T-shirts. Craig Karcher was the overall male winner of the Pump and Run with 40 reps. Dave Vezmar from Milford turned 40 on race day and proudly wore number 40 and ran barefoot in 21:17.
