DuPont Hospital for Children announces arrival of daVinci Si Surgical System

New robotic technology offers minimally invasive surgery
Mar 17, 2013

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is the first children’s hospital in the Delaware Valley to offer the da Vinci Si Surgical System. This advanced Si robotic technology is a significant arrival because of the considerable advancement it offers surgical staff in the way they treat children.

The technological advancements of the da Vinci Si Surgical System provide surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control which enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures. Initially, pediatric urologists at duPont Hospital for Children will use the da Vinci Si Surgical System to perform certain surgeries involving the kidney and bladder. In the future, ENT and general surgeons will also offer robotic-assisted procedures.

Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which a surgeon, with the help of a robot, performs very precise movements through small openings or ports in the body. The Si robotic technology allows surgeons the ability to perform a greater variety and complexity of surgical cases, such as treating children with conditions involving the kidney and bladder.

Children undergoing robotic surgery may experience faster recovery, less pain, less blood loss and scarring, fewer infections and post-operative complications, and reduced length of stay.
