Dvorak's 'Rusalka' to screen Feb. 8 in Live in HD broadcast

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcast of Anton Dvorak’s “Rusalka” at 12:55, Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Cape Henlopen High School theater. This exciting production is the fifth opera in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of live simulcast transmissions for the 2013-14 season.

World-renowned soprano Renée Fleming will sing her first Live in HD performance in one of her signature roles, the lovelorn mermaid Rusalka. Dynamic young maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts a cast that also includes Polish tenor Piotr Beczala as the Handsome Prince, American mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick as the cackling swamp witch Ježibaba, Emily Magee as the Foreign Princess, and John Relyea as Rusalka’s father.

Opera critic Paul J. Pelkonen writes, “The return of soprano Renée Fleming is always anticipated at the Metropolitan Opera. And here, she returns to the role that has become one of her signatures in the last 15 years.”

Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $22 for Met members, $25 for adults, $22 for seniors 65 and over, $15 for students with ID, and $15 for children 12 and under. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no reserved seats. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m., and there will be two intermission breaks during the live broadcast.
