Thoughts From the Sidelines

Eagles fans deal with the constant change of expectations!

By Sumner Spence | Oct 24, 2013

I had hopes that the Eagles had turned the corner with Nick Foles as quarterback, but his performance against Dallas last week was absolutely terrible from start to finish. To add insult to injury the offense never showed up and our so-called best player, LeSean McCoy, should have been able to carry the team for one much needed win. This is even more frustrating given that the defense finally played very well, holding Dallas to only three points in the first half. Sure would be nice if the offense and defense would show up for the same game some time this season! The only possibly good thing that came out of this game was to prove to the fans that Michael Vick is not that bad a quarterback. Vick will probably start this week's game against the Giants due to Nick Fole's concussion. Hopefully Vick's body will hold up for a few weeks.

This year's Baseball World Series will probably be very close between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. With all the football games going on, a good World Series performance makes for a much better end of another summer. These two teams have not gone against each other in the World Series since 2004 when the Red Sox broke the 80-plus year Babe Ruth curse by sweeping the Cardinals in four games in that World Series. Another note of interest from this year's ALCS if you are a Phillies fan like me came in game six when Shane Victorino hit a sweet grand slam home run to seal Boston's race for this year's pennant.

The Major League Soccer playoffs are about to start. The Philadelphia Union had a good chance to win the last playoff position until this past weekend when they lost to Montréal. The odds are not in their favor to make the playoffs now. They would need to pull off a win in their last regular season game and also have some of the other contenders lose. Let's see what happens.
