Easter Seals supports military families

Easter Seals has been helping military service members, veterans, their families and families of the fallen since World War II.

In Delaware, Easter Seals serving veterans like Larry, who comes to the Easter Seals adult day program three days a week. Having served in the Navy during World War II, 94-year-old Larry says the effects of military service can be far reaching. When he hears news reports about the difficulties military service members are facing as they return from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he can relate.

“When I came back, it was real tough for me,” he says, adding that he has talked with some younger veterans in recent years and is glad Easter Seals is helping military families get the services and support they need and deserve.

Easter Seals also serves military families like the Stubblebines. Two-year-old Timothy, who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder, receives speech, feeding and physical therapy at Easter Seals in Dover. He lives with his mom, three siblings and his dad, who is serving in the United Arab Emirates for six months. His dad, a master sergeant in the Air Force, has been deployed many times in his 12 years of service. While he is away, Timothy’s mom, Pam, appreciates the support she receives from Easter Seals.

“We appreciate all of their hard work and patience with our son,” Pam says. “They have been really great to our family.”

Military service members, veterans and their families can take part in all service offerings - from medical rehabilitation and autism services, to respite, camping and recreation, caregiver support and adult day programs.
