Award wining watercolorist Howard J. Eberle will be part of the May “Nocturne” show at Peninsula Gallery opening Saturday, May 4, with a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The show will feature a total of seven artists all resident members of the gallery. The other artists include Al Barker, Doris Ingram, Brian Murphy, Damon Pla, Steve Rogers and Nick Serratore.

Eberle, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, has been painting in watercolor since 1973. Originally from Baltimore, Md., he now resides in Boiling Springs, Pa., where he has lived for over 40 years. Twenty one years ago Eberle began painting full time after a career in retail display.

“From that experience I was able to glean composition, design, and lighting.” Eberle calls his style “realism with a touch of the abstract.” He applies watercolor in a layering technique and finishes with drybrush, which allows him to achieve the fine detail for which he is noted. Combined with his unusual composition using negative space and strong shadows, his works have impact both visually and emotionally. “My approach to a painting is to dramatize simple objects with the ultimate goal to produce a powerful painting," he noted

The Peninsula Gallery is currently in its 17th year of operation and offers fine art by over twenty, local, regional and international artists, fine art conservation and contemporary framing and fine art restoration. The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Framing consultations are available Tuesday-Saturday. The gallery is closed Mondays. The gallery can be reached at 302-645-0551 or www.peninsula-gallery.com.
