Eighth Annual Chocolate Tasting at Cape Henlopen State Park Sept. 7
It’s been said there's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with chocolate. Saturday, Sept. 7, is the date of the 8th Annual Chocolate Tasting sponsored by the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park and held at the Biden Center in the park from 1 to 4 p.m. Veterans of this event already have the date marked on their calendars.

The Chocolate Tasting features chocolate candy and baked goods prepared by local volunteers. Admission to the event is $5, and tickets are good for six tastes. Additional tastes go for 50 cents apiece or three for $1. Visitors can eat their choices on the spot or ask the Friends to wrap them up to go.
There will also be a raffle. Chair Roxanne Nelson says this year’s sponsors have been especially generous. The Friends will hold drawings during the day, with prizes going to those present as well as the main drawing at the end of the day for the major prizes. The winners of the final drawing do not need to be on hand to claim their prizes. The raffle tickets will sell for $1 apiece or six for $5.
A family visit to the park offers a wide array of activities to help work off that chocolate high: Borrow a bicycle at the Bike Barn and ride around the park. Enjoy hours of fun on the equipment in the new playground. Play disc golf on the course across the street from the playground. Spend some time on the beach. Park entrance fees are in effect.
Funds from this year’s Chocolate Tasting will help replenish the Richard and Mirth Thatcher Education Fund to allow teachers to finance quality field trips to Cape Henlopen State Park where hands-on experiences with nature and history can be provided through the Seaside Nature Center.
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State park is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers committed to public education about the park. They believe that education leads to appreciation, conservation and preservation. Friends volunteers participate in a monthly Trails Day and a variety of other direct activities within the park.
