Embellish Your Melon set Nov. 2 to benefit families struggling with brain injurySchell Brothers to receive award
“Like winning the World Series in the bottom of the ninth, our Nov. 2 event plans are all coming together at the last minute, to benefit struggling Delaware families faced with the sudden crisis of a serious brain injury,” said Lisa Furber, volunteer president of the Brain Injury Association of Delaware.
The Saturday, Nov. 2 BIAD fundraiser, Embellish Your Melon, will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Harry’s Savoy Ballroom, 2020 Naamans Road, Wilmington.
Included in the evening’s lineup of gourmet hors d'oeuvres and live music, will be the chance for attendees to bid on thousands of dollars’ worth of donated silent auction items from every corner of the state. These include a wide range of products, services, artwork, books, memberships and admission tickets - from a complete patio, to a one-hour massage, a Philadelphia Zoo ticket four- pack, an airplane tour/ride, a children’s pony party with snacks for 15, as well as gift certificates, museum admission tickets, high-tech products and more.
Prizes will also be awarded for the most creative and unusual hats and head coverings. A special presentation includes awards honoring the Child HELP Foundation and two Delaware businesses, Schell Brothers home developers and The Brick Doctor Inc., for their generous support of Delaware brain injury families.
BIAD’s all-volunteer statewide advocacy, support, and prevention programs that the Embellish Your Melon event supports provide critically needed services to the financially and emotionally traumatized families of brain-injured victims in all three Delaware counties, as well as in Salisbury, Md.
Advance registration at www.BIADE.org is $49 per person - $59 at the door. Dress is formal to business casual, depending on individual preferences, but even for those who might choose a gown or tuxedo, everyone is requested to wear a favorite hat or creative head-covering to help promote head injury awareness.
There is still time remaining for businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to participate as last-minute event sponsors, says Furber, but they need them to hurry. Interested sponsors and silent auction donors can contact BIAD by leaving a return-call phone message at 1-800-411-0505 as soon as possible to reserve special package rates and arrangements.
